Rose is the main character of the Silent Hill movie. Nine years before the events in the movie, Rose and her husband Chris adopted a baby girl named Sharon. Sharon began sleep walking, and in her sleep calling out "Silent Hill". Medications wouldn't work, so Rose decided to take Sharon to Silent Hill, in hopes that it would help her daughter.
On the way to Silent Hill Rose gets into a car accident, and when she regains consciousness Sharon is gone. Rose searches Silent Hill for her daughter, and in the process learns about the towns dark history.
In the end Rose gets Sharon back and returns home, but never really leaves the foggy world of Silent Hill. It can be assumed that Rose and Sharon both died in the car accident.
As many Silent Hill fans will realize, Rose plays an extremely simular role to Harry, from the first Silent Hill game.
Cybil Bennett

Cybil is a highly respected police officer from Brahams. She is famously known for saving a young boy who was abandoned in Silent Hill a while back.
At first Cybil believes that there's something strange about Rose and Sharon, so she chases them into Silent Hill, where she crashes her motorcycle.
When she finds Rose she arrests her, and ignores her warnings that something is wrong with the town. After witnessing the strangeness firsthand though, she decides to help Rose find Sharon.
In the end, she sacrifices her own life to save Rose. The cult members claim that her a Rose are witches, and though Rose escapes, Cybil isn't so lucky, and she is burned alive.
Christopher Da Silva

Christopher is Rose's husband, and Sharon's father. After Rose takes Sharon to Silent Hill against his will, he begins to search for them with the help of Officer Gucci.
Though Chris goes to Silent Hill, he is in the "normal" town, and therefore unable to find Rose and Sharon. Through old police records and Gucci, Chris is able to learn about Alessa Gillespie, and the cult in Silent Hill.
In the end he is forced to give up, and is never reunited with his family.
Sharon Da Silva

Sharon is Rose and Christopher's daughter. Because of her sleep walking, Rose takes Sharon to Silent Hill, where she is reunited with her true self: Alessa.
Sharon is actually the good that was left in Alessa, that the demon separated and took out of Silent Hill.
Throughout the movie, Dahlia keeps Sharon hidden and safe from the cult, until the end. Eventually the cult finds Sharon and tries to burn her, but she is rescued by Rose.
Sharon's role is very simular to Cheryl Mason's. Even the name is simular.
Alessa Gillespie

Alessa is the daughter of Dahlia Gillespie, who was burned nearly to death by the cult 30 years ago. Seeking revenge for what happened to her, Alessa accepts the help of a demon. Alessa transforms Silent Hill into a hellish nightmare, and traps in it everyone who made her suffer.
Alessa and the demon are unable to harm the cult members though, because of there hideout in the church. By using Rose though, they are able to get into the church, and in the end Alessa kills all the cult member, leaving only Dahlia, Rose, and Sharon alive (though they still remain trapped in the foggy world).

Dark Alessa, also refered to as simply "the demon" is a demon (or the devil) who takes the form of young Alessa and Sharon in order to lead Rose through town and convince her to help Alessa and the demon into the church.
This demon is the one who made the deal with Alessa 30 years ago, and turned Silent Hill into Alessa's hellish nightmare. It is unable to enter the church where the cult members hide out though, so it requires Rose to help them into the church, so that the cult members can be punished. The demon gives Alessa the power to destroy the ones who made her suffer.
Dahlia Gillespie

Dahlia is Alessa's mother. Because Dahlia would not name Alessa's father, the cult tried to burn Alessa as a witch. Dahlia was weak, and could do nothing to stop them, though she did try to get help from the police. By the time they made it back it was to late.
During the events of the movie, Dahlia keeps Sharon hidden from the cult, most likely as a way of making up for what she allowed to happen to Alessa. In the end, she is caught by the cult along with Sharon, and forced by the cult to watch the child burn. Sharon is saved by Rose though, when Rose brings the demon and Alessa into the church. Dahlia is one of the few that Alessa does not kill, along with Sharon and Rose.
Thomas Gucci

Officer Gucci is the police officer who rescued Alessa 30 years ago. He grew up in Silent Hill, but after the fire moved to Brahams where he became a detective.
During the events of the movie, Officer Gucci helps Chris look for Sharon and Rose, though he is reluctant to tell Chris the truth about the town. In the end, he forces Chris to give up looking.
Christabella

Christabella is the leader in the cult. 30 years ago she was the one who ordered Alessa to be burned as a witch. Christabella kept the cult safe in the church where the demon couldn't get them until the end.
In the end, with the help of Rose, Alessa was able to get her revenge on Christabella, by killing her with the rest of her followers.

Little is known about this character. It isn't even confirmed that this is Lisa Garland, but assuming by her role and her appearance, it probably is.
Lisa was Alessa's nurse when she was first taken to the hospital. After Alessa makes a deal with the demon, Lisa remains trapped in the nightmarish Silent Hill with Alessa. There is no real reason for this since Lisa never did anything to Alessa. Alessa was simply so full of hate that she took her rage out on everyone around her, including Lisa.
